Every idea starts with a spark.
For me, it wasn’t in a studio or at a convention table. It was in a classroom, staring at equations that kept morphing into monsters in my mind. All I could think about was this story.
I kept envisioning a world where zombie and vampire myths weren’t merely recycled tropes but were reshaped into something entirely new. I imagined a place as unforgiving as The Last of Us and even more relentless than The Walking Dead. I stripped everything down to black and white to capture the grit of Sin City and to mirror the unsettling detail of Junji Ito’s work. Day after day, the images circled in my mind: guns instead of swords, gas masks instead of spells. I wanted a story that felt raw, fresh, and dangerous. I wanted a challenge that could push me beyond what I had already done.
Although I had been working on my fantasy webcomic for a while, I started craving something darker, slower, and more haunting. I wanted a story that that would linger long after the final page. I envisioned a comic that carried the rhythm of a film yet unfolded like an epic you couldn’t put down. That spark became Bite the Dust, and in that moment, it took its first breath.
A Post-Apocalyptic World That Doesn’t Play Fair
Bite the Dust is a graphic novel spanning over 50 pages that envisions a nation unraveling following a catastrophic invasion and the release of an airborne toxin called Blood Dust, a red gas that mutates humans into strange and terrifying creatures. One breath, one mistake, and everything changes.
In this world, the rules are simple, but the consequences are brutal.
• A monster’s bite turns humans into demons.
• A demon’s bite reduces them to dust.
• Breathing in Blood Dust mutates humans into something… else.

The first issue begins with a high‑stakes mission as a squad of soldiers navigates the flooded ruins of New York City, chasing whispers of a briefcase rumored to hold the cure for Blood Dust.
The closer they come to their goal, the more the line between reason and madness begins to blur. What started as a mission for survival gradually twists into a desperate struggle to preserve their last fragile remnants of humanity.
And this is only the beginning. This issue sets the stage for a larger saga of monsters, demons, mutations, and the haunting question of how much humanity can endure when the world itself refuses to play fair.
It Takes A Village
What began as a single spark quickly grew into something I couldn’t contain. Bite the Dust is not just my vision; it is the collision of two imaginations, each bringing its own strength to help shape a world that feels alive.
I had the ideas, the obsession, even the monsters and the atmosphere, but I knew the story needed more than just raw inspiration. That was when I reached out to Kymet LaBoard. His gift for pacing and cinematic storytelling transformed my sketches and ideas into scenes that flow like a movie. Where I sought range, he brought precision. Where I chased suspense, he created depth.

Our partnership began years ago in a college art class. What started as classmates exchanging ideas blossomed into a friendship and eventually evolved into a shared passion for comics and storytelling. LaBoard even served as the editor of my debut series, Gems and Journeys, when it was still a webcomic, refining my storytelling skills and encouraging me to think bigger. That collaboration became the foundation for everything we would go on to create together.
Bite the Dust is more than just another horror comic. For us, two Black creators from South Carolina, it stands as proof of what we can build despite the odds and barriers in our way. At its core, the story is not only about monsters and mutations but also about what becomes possible when local voices claim their narratives and shape worlds on their own terms.
